Andrea R. Ortega - November 22, 2009

Social Justice Committee Meeting is scheduled for Monday, November 23rd at 8pm in the Union office.

Discussed planning a North Quad back-to-school event for the beginning of next semester with Amelia McConnell, North Quad CDC.

I am in the process of compiling a North Quad facilities report for the COWG meeting with Mark Collins on December 1st.

Andrea R. Ortega - November 15, 2009

Met with SJC Committee on Monday to update each other on the support we were able to garner for our project, raising enough money to arrange for Capt. Paul Watson from Whale Wars to speak at Brandeis.

Met with SEA representative about co-sponsorship.

Emailed several departments for support.

Emailed BILC Coordinator about future of Council, but have not received a response.

Andrea R. Ortega - November 8, 2009

Held first meeting of the Social Justice Committee on Monday.

Further discussed what we could do as a committee to bring Capt. Paul Watson to Brandeis in Spring. We plan on discovering what other SJCs in the past have done throughout the years. SEA has agreed to co-sponsor the project and representatives will be at the next SJC meeting next Monday.

Advertisements for North Quad Council will be distributed by the end of this week.

This week, Sydney Reuben and I met with Stephanie Grimes about re-vamping myBrandeis/Brandeis NOW into a more comprehensive, user-friendly student resource. We are in the process of contacting other schools with more functional student resource pages (such as Tufts) in order to find out how theirs were created.

Social Justice Committee meeting scheduled for Monday November 2nd at 8pm in the Student Union Office.

Went to Outreach Committee meeting to discuss ideas for the Student Union bulletin board in Usdan. Also met with Jenna Rubin one-on-one to discuss her plans to bring a guest speaker to Brandeis.

Selected as BILC Representative.

Meeting on Wednesday with the CAs this week. Will discuss reformation of Quad Council and developing Quad Wars activity.

Met with Jenna over potential project for Social Justice Committee. First meeting will be this week or next week.

Andrea R. Ortega - October 11, 2009

This week I attended JV's panel discussion, "Chasing Your Dream: Pursuit to Higher Education," in Pearlman Lounge. All three speakers, Shilpa Dave, Darrell Bennett, and Elaine Wong were all very inspiring and the discussion following was highly interactive. It was a great event!

I've also set up a meeting with Amelia McConnell, the Community Development Coordinator for the North Quad, for Tuesday, Oct. 13th to discuss some of the ideas I have for the Quad and how I can work with her to make them possible. I also attended the COWG meeting with Nipun following last week's meeting and e-mailed him regarding some of the utilities/facilities problems around the Quad.

I've also spoken to Sofya and Rebecca Bachman about joining the Provost’s Committee on the Assessment of Learning.
