Brandeis Votes Initiative Heats Up for Election Day

October 30, 2008

The Brandeis Student Union is proud to announce several more installments of the Brandeis Votes Initiative.

During the last two months the Student Union has led the Brandeis Votes initiative to promote voter registration and awareness. To help those registered at Brandeis to vote in person, the Union is now partnering with Brandeis Public Safety to provide Branvan shuttles to the Waltham polling station on Tuesday, November 4. This shuttle will leave from Shapiro Campus Center (look for the balloons!) and go to the Banks elementary school at 10am, noon, 2pm, and 4pm.

Director of Executive Affairs Jessica Blumberg has coordinated the Election Day effort and says, "I hope that students take advantage of this shuttle and vote in the election. The campus has shown its commitment to the effort so far and the Union hopes that we can end strong with high voter turnout on Election Day." The newly formed Senate Outreach Committee is working to inform students of the availability of this service.

On Election night, Student Events will broadcast the Election Results live in the Atrium. Union Director of Communications, Jamie Ansorge, will be delivering introductory remarks.

Thursday night, November 6th, the Union will be co-sponsoring a post-election panel discussion with the Office of Communications. The event will be held in the Rapaporte Treasure Hall of the Library, from 7:00-8:30. Scheduled panelists will include Professors Peniel Joseph , Jill Greenlee, Mingus Mapps, and John Ballantine. A Brandeis alumnus and current NPR correspondent, Guy Raz, will moderate the discussion. The panel will breakdown the election results, and discuss what first steps the new president may take. After the panel discussion, the audience is invited to participate in breakout groups with each panelist.
