Planning A Coffeehouse
If you are interested in planning a Coffeehouse, stop by the Department of Student Activities in the Shapiro Campus Center (Room 201). A staff member will assist you in discussing your plans, checking available dates, and determining what will be necessary to make your coffeehouse successful.
Where can I hold a coffeehouse?
There are numerous places that student groups can hold coffeehouses on campus. Possible coffeehouse locations include:
- Chumleys
- The Stein
- Shapiro Campus Center Atrium
- Shapiro Campus Center Cafe
- Shapiro Campus Center Theater Shapiro
- Campus Center Multipurpose Room
- Shapiro Campus Center Art Gallery
- Usdan Student Center Lower Lobby
- Ziv Commons
If you are interested in using any of these spaces, make sure to check with the appropriate individuals who coordinate the reservation of the space you are looking to reserve. If youÕre not sure who reserves the space, stop by and talk with a staff member from the Department of Student Activities. They can help you determine the appropriate person to speak with.
When can I hold a coffeehouse?
Try to find a night on which you will not be competing with many other programs. This can be a little challenging given the high number of clubs and organizations at Brandeis. Staff from the Department of Student Activities can assist you in looking for light-programming nights. Conference and Event Services can also assist you in determining an appropriate time to plan your event. Be sure to consider your audience when selecting a night!
What will it cost me?
There are typically some costs associated with holding a coffeehouse. Costs can include: sound equipment, food, space reservation (i.e. Chums), and set up (i.e. tables and chairs). Staff from the Department of Student Activities can assist you in sorting out whether additional costs will apply to your event as well as assist in identifying areas of sponsorship (if necessary).
Where can I get sound equipment?
There are a number of groups on campus who possess technical equipment that can be used to support your coffeehouse. Student groups that possess technical equipment include: Student Events, WBRS, and the ICC. Professional offices that possess (or can rent) technical equipment include: The Department of Student Activities, Media Services, and Conference and Events Services.
