A1. Bill Ayers Tickets: LAST DAY TO PURCHASE!
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Monday, April 27th is the last day to purchase tickets for the Bill
Ayers lecture. You can pick them up between 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM in
Usdan, or email Mariel Gruszko at MGRUSZKO@BRANDEIS.EDU. Tickets are
available to the Brandeis community ONLY, and cost $5. Must have a
valid Brandeis ID to purchase.

The lecture will take place on Thursday, April 30th, from 9:00 to 10:30
PM with doors opening at 8:30. William Ayers, Distinguished Professor of
Education at the University of Illinois at Chicago, will speak on social
justice movements and lessons from the anti-war movement. An open
question and answer session will follow.

Ayers co-founded the radical anti-war group, the Weather Underground.
Later, he became a leading activist and scholar of education reform in
America. His controversial history was brought to the forefront of
American media during the 2008 presidential election, due to his
acquaintance with President Obama.

This event is co-sponsored by Democracy for America, Students for a
Democratic Society, the Brenda Meehan Social Justice Grant, and four
academic departments: Peace, Conflict and Coexistence Studies;
Education; History; and Social Justice, Social Policy.

B9. Sam Green's "The Weather Underground"
------------------------------------------------------------------------
April 29, 2009 - 07:00PM Lown Auditorium, Rabb

In preparation for Bill Ayers' visit, Democracy for America and Students
for a Democratic Society will be screening Sam Green's Oscar-nominated
documentary film, "The Weather Underground."

Fueled by outrage over racism and the Vietnam War, the Weather
Underground waged a low-level war against the government throughout
much of the 1970s—bombing the Capitol building, breaking Timothy Leary
out of prison, and evading one of the largest FBI manhunts in history.
The Weather Underground is a feature-length documentary that explores
the rise and fall of this radical movement, as former members speak
candidly about the idealistic passion that drove them to "bring the war
home." Starring Bernardine Dohrn, Bill Ayers, Mark Rudd, David Gilbert,
Brian Flanagan, Laura Whitehorn, Naomi Jaffe Kathleen Cleaver and Todd
Gitlin.

Comprised of original compositions by Dan Newman during the Fall '08 and
Spring '09 semesters, this is Dan's culminating concert at Brandeis. It

very least.

B13. A Journey for a Better Future
------------------------------------------------------------------------
April 25, 2009 - 03:00PM Women's Studies Research Center

“A Journey for a Better Future/Un Viaje Hace Un Mejor Futuro” is an
original play based on the stories of Brandeis custodians from Central
America. Tim Pracher-Dix, a Brandeis senior and theater major,
conducted interviews with the custodians and adapted their experiences
to the stage. The janitors themselves are also featured actors in the
performance. The play explores themes of poverty, war, assimilation,
racism and the future of immigration in the United States, giving a
voice to a marginalized group of our society.
The performances will take place in the Women’s Studies Research Center
on Saturday, April 25 at 3pm and Sunday, April 26 at 8pm. Seating is
limited and reservations are recommended. For reservations contact
unviajeplay@gmail.com
This play was made possible by the generosity of the Karpf and Hahn
Peace Awards and the Brandeis Pluralism Alliance. It was produced in
conjunction with the Leonard Bernstein Festival of the Arts.
