A2. Facilities Concerns/Complaints
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Have a broken shutter? Moldy bathroom stalls? Noticed a broken door in
academic buildings? The Brandeis Cow-G Cow will come to the rescue.

COW-G is Brandeis Campus Operations Working Group. As a group, we work
with Mark Collins, the VP for Campus Operations, to make facilities
changes and improvements around campus.

Right now, we are looking for ideas to improve the living conditions in
your quad, or the campus in general. If anyone has any suggestions,
please email us at cow-g@lists.brandeis.edu .

In the past, COWG has been able to accomplish major campus improvements
(i.e. renovating Massell Pond, revamping the East Hill, repaving the
pathway to Usdan, adding huge flat screen TVs to quad lounges), so
think big.

How can you contact us?
- post on our Facebook group- "Brandeis CowG"|

- You can also email us at: cow-g@lists.brandeis.edu .

Location: Abraham Shapiro Academic Complex (ASAC) Atrium, across the
loop road from the Heller School

What’s it like to work as an epidemiologist at the World Health
Organization or as a community worker in a mining town? What career
path did Dr. Williams follow in his micro- and macro- work on disease?
What advice does he have for others considering this work? Bring your
lunch; dessert and drinks provided. Cosponsored by Hiatt Career Center.
For more information, contact ethics@brandeis.edu.

“Office Hours with Dr. Williams”
Time: 1:30-2:45 pm

KEYNOTE ADDRESS:
“Fighting AIDS in Africa: Public Health vs. Human Rights”
Time: 3:30-5:00 pm
Location: International Lounge, Usdan.

Once exiled from his native South Africa, Dr. Brian Williams has worked
in Kenya, Tanzania, and South Africa, notably with communities troubled
by multiple health risks. In this address, he attempts to reconcile the
disparate views of public-health experts and human-rights advocates to
explore how policymakers, donors, scientists, and service providers can
work together more effectively to prevent and treat disease. For more
information, contact ethics@brandeis.edu.

“Global Infectious Disease Challenges and the Role of Data in Social
Justice”
Time: 6:40-8:00 pm
Location: Heller, room G4

The burden of ill health is unequally distributed worldwide, with vast
disparities in the availability of clean water, food, and adequate
healthcare. Dr. Williams demonstrates how quantitative data inform
policy decisions, program planning, implementation, and evaluation in
order to achieve positive health outcomes. An open session of Professor
Sarita Bhalotra's HSSP 110 - Health and Social Justice. For more
information, contact Sarita Bhalotra.

B7. Daniel Harris LIVE on WBRS!
------------------------------------------------------------------------
February 10, 2009 - 10:00PM Multipurpose Room, 2nd fl, SCC

"As a whole, this solo project helmed by Daniel Harris may unthinkably
come across as too mellow even for the most impassioned melodic crowd,
but there are some gems worthy of complementing a relaxing late morning
brunch. Better yet, the free-spirited acoustic spell Harris casts with a
homemade, accessible arrangement of guitar, accordion, banjo, and more
could color in a ginger ambiance of a feel-good sitcom moment
("Elephant" in particular would be perfect for a show like Scrubs,
perhaps - the resonance of Harris' vocals here reminds me of Jose
Gonzalez's cover of the Knifes' "Heartbeats")."
--ShemSpeed

"This pleasingly spare and stripped-down experimental lo-fi pop
acoustic album eschews needless flashy razzle-dazzle frills in favoring
of a more straightforward approach to banging out a tune. Said approach
possesses a delicate intimacy and equally fragile melodicism that's
truly something to hear. Harris' vocals are appropriately warm and
inviting, the arrangements tight and harmonic, the lyrics thoughtful
and reflective. Proof positive that the small-scale take on music can
be quite moving and effective if done with a winning blend of skill and
ingenuity." -- Jersey Beat

The Joint, Brandeis's only weekly free live music series of all
original music genres, originates from upper floors of the Shapiro
Campus Center at Brandeis University every Tuesday night at 10:00pm,
