A1. State of Finance
------------------------------------------------------------------------
On Monday, April 7, 2008 (6 pm ~ 7 pm), there will be "State of Finance"
in Carl and Ruth Shapiro Theater in Shapiro Campus Center.

The past, current, and future of the Student Union finances will be
presented interactively. Financial affairs of the Student Union have
changed dramatically in the past 2 years. However, there are still much
work to be done to make financial systems as efficient and complete as
possible.

The following are some of many topics that will be presented:

- All financial changes made and implemented for the past 2 years
- What would happen to current rollover (approximately $150,000 of
unintentional rollover and $140,000 of intentional rollover)
- "Best Financially Managed Club" award
- Effect of "Free Admissions" policy and future policies
- Media funding consolidation
- Club Sports Program
- Changes that will be implemented effective Early Marathon for Fall
2008 such as Appeal Request meetings and 1-income general grant
allocation methods
- Creation and sustainability of the Office of the Treasurer
- Rollover issues and solutions to rollover
- SAF Management System that will change all aspects of funding
requests, allocations, and expenditures
- Plan of "Interim Treasurer"
- Proposal of CapEx Fund change to Reserve Fund

In addition, there will be a financial Constitutional Amendment in a
few weeks. This will be a great time to stop by and find out some of
the proposals to make the system more complete.

This will most likely be the current Treasurer, Choon Woo Ha's last
official interaction with all of you.

Refreshment will be served.

We look forward to seeing you at the State of Finance!

A5. The Queer Resource Center is ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS!
------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Brandeis Queer Resource Center (QRC) is accepting applications for
the Fall term of next year. We are student-run peer counseling group,
and the educational branch of Triskelion (Brandeis' LGBTQ and Ally
organization). It was established to teach the campus community about
issues surrounding genders and sexualities, provide support for queer,
questioning and allied students, and answer any questions! In addition
to an extensive library of books, magazines and movies, the QRC offers
confidential counseling. The staff members have all undergone thorough
training and are able peer educators. The QRC also conducts dorm raps,
during which staff members teach residence halls through games and
activities.

We are looking to expand our team of driven, conscientious staffers.
These positions, while voluntary, do entail a time commitment of
several hours per week. This includes holding office hours, attending
staff meetings, and community building within the QRC and across campus
through workshops, dorm raps, and working with CA’s, OL’s, as well as
with Brandeis staff and faculty. QRC staffers are dynamic individuals
committed to furthering equality and awareness on campus. A commitment
to the QRC requires a minimum of two semesters. The QRC is accepting of
all identities, and we make an effort to reflect this in our staff’s
composition.

An optional information session will be held in the QRC office on
Monday, April 14th at 7:30 PM. Applications will be due April 28th by 5
PM either by email (to qrc@brandeis.edu) or dropped off in the office by
5pm. You will be contacted within a few days for individual interviews.
Please don't stress, we just want to meet you! All applicants will be
informed of decisions by email within a week. Accepted applicants must
be able to attend training prior to the start of the fall semester,
generally during the week before classes begin.

Applications are available in our office (SCC 328), or online at
http://people.brandeis.edu/~trisk/?p=qrc. We hope to hear from you
soon!

Want to learn how Apple can help out at your club's event? Curious about

The Apple Campus Rep is here to support you and answer any questions
you may have. If you are planning an event and want Apple support, do
not hesitate to contact me at BrianLevenson@mac.com.

Note: I am not a sales rep and cannot provide free handouts. For any
technical issues you may experience with your computer, please consult

B6. Wed - Ian MacKaye Speaking Engagement/Q+A
------------------------------------------------------------------------
April 9, 2008 - 07:30PM Schwartz Auditorium

The Brandeis Community is pleased to bring you a rare opportunity to see
Ian MacKaye at an intimate speaking engagement/informal Q+A.

MacKaye is best known for his work in underground music. He was the
frontman for groundbreaking and iconic hardcore band Minor Threat,
which unintentionally provided the foundation for the straight edge
movement with the song "Straight Edge." In Fugazi, MacKaye challenged
all notions of punk and politics as his band helped found the basis for
the success of Nirvana and countless others and was hailed as by the
Clash's Joe Strummer as the band that most exemplified "the spirit of
punk." MacKaye has become an icon of American independent music, as he
continues to run his label, Dischord Records, and still makes music as
part of the Evens.

MacKaye is a brilliant and engaging speaker who has intelligent insight
on everything from global politics to musical ideology, so don't miss
out on the opportunity to see him in action. Be sure to come with
questions at the ready.

Sponsored by The Punk, Rock 'N' Roll Club, Gen Ed Now, PERC, SDS, FMLA,
WBRS, Jam Society, SEA, Vegan Club, Amnesty International, the Activist
Resource Center, Positive Foundations, the Sociology Department, the
American Studies Department + UDRs, the Music Department, the English
and American Literature Department, the Cultural Production Program,
and The Festival of the Arts.

The event is free and open to the public. Doors will open at 7pm and
the talk will begin at 7:30pm.
