A1. CALLING ALL TOILETRIES! Rosie's Place Toiletry Drive
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Brandeis University Conservative Organization (BUCO)is sponsoring a
toiletry drive for Purim. We will have boxes all around campus (usdan,
c store, shapiro, sherman, hillel lounge) for collection! ALL PRODUCTS
MUST BE BRAND NEW!
Since 1974 poor and homeless women have found an oasis of hope and
nourishment at Rosie’s Place. The mission of Rosie’s Place is to help
women maintain their dignity, seek opportunity and find security in
their lives.
Many of the women we assist are working and in housing but simply can’t
make ends meet. Some are newly homeless, while others women have been
living on the streets for years. We serve women as young as 18 and as
old as 80. Approximately one-third of our guests have children. Rosie's
Place serves guests from a wide variety of ethnic groups, with the
majority being African American, Hispanic, Haitian, or White. Some of
our guests are living with HIV/AIDS or have hidden disabilities such as
addiction or mental illnesses that prevent them from effectively
integrating into society.
Boxes will open for collection starting Monday!

A4. Roller Coasters+Social Justice=ACTUAL REALITY CARNIVAL
------------------------------------------------------------------------
*SOCIAL JUSTICE CARNIVAL*
Saturday, April 5th
(Have your cake and help others have cake, too!)
*WHAT IS IT?*
A chance for ALL clubs to do something social-justicey at a MASSIVE
campus-wide event that combines an old fashioned carnival with rides
and snacks as well as this newfangled social justice element. This
event is being sponsored by Student Events, the Social Justice
Committee of the Student Union, Student Peace Alliance, and your club
too! This
is your chance to step outside what your club usually does and get
involved with the entire Brandeis community in a positive way because
EVERYONE IS GOING TO BE THERE!
*HOW CAN MY CLUB BE INVOLVED?*
*Each club creates a social-justice-themed booth*. Booths should
promote a social
justice issue that it important to your club, not just serve to promote
your club.
*2 Possible Options for Booths:*
* Fun activity with a social justice/community service message
* *Ex*) creating holiday cards to send to sick/needy
* Educate the student body on a social justice issue and provide a
way people can get involved or learn more on the topic
* *Ex*) Clickdrive/Freerice.com
Or, send us your own creative ideas for a booth!
*INTERESTED? DO YOU WANT TO PARTICIPATE?*
*If so, please respond to this email address ASAP.*
*Please respond by WEDNESDAY, 3/12*
If you respond YES, one of us will come to one of your club meetings
and talk to you club
about the specifics.
*CAN WE HELP YOU?*
If you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions, please email
aepps@brandeis.edu

A5. Purim Clothing Drive
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Got any extra clothes lying around that you just don't wear anymore?
From now until March 19, Hillel is collecting clothes to donate to
Friends of Boston Homeless (fobh.org). We'll be using the clothes as
decorations at the Hillel Purim party on March 20, and then donating
them the week after. Want to collect clothes from friends on your
hall?
There is a box of black garbage bags on the table at the entrance of
Hillel Lounge (upstairs Usdan, Levin ballroom side), feel free to use
those bags for clothes. Clothes can be left at that same area in the
entrance to Hillel Lounge.

A6. The Benjamin Franklin Social Justice Grant
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sponsored by the Student Union Social Justice Committee, the Benjamin
Franklin Social Justice Grant offers students monetary and additional
support in the interest of advancing social justice on campus. This
initiative, which is offering three grants this spring, will award
individuals or groups $100 with which to work in addressing their
social justice issue of choice. The award seeks to encourage, support,
and reward those willing to raise a concern they care about and take
action to bring about change here within the Brandeis community. The
monetary component of the grant may go towards hosting a public forum,
holding a speakers event, running an educational campaign, or any other
creative endeavor. Grant recipients will receive direct support from the
Student Union in planning and implementing their projects.
